BIOGRAPHY:

Wilford A. Bladen was born on February 18, 1925, in Madison, Indiana. Before becoming a Geography professor at New Mexico State University, Dr. Bladen served as Professor Emeritus of Geography at the University of Kentucky and received the Great Teacher Award in 1990. He researched contemporary Kentucky's economy and geography and authored books such as The Geography of Kentucky (1984) and Across the Appalachians. He also wrote numerous articles that appeared in several scientific journals, such as the Geographical Review, Environment and Behavior, and Journal of Air Pollution Control Association.

Dr. Bladen also lived in Japan for several years and served as an officer with the US Occupation Forces in 1945.

Dr. Bladen passed on June 20, 2015, in Richmond, Kentucky.
