Velva and Charlie Miller lived in Las Cruces since 1933, raising a son and a daughter. They owned a new car sales and service business, and they traveled extensively. Velva worked in the county treasurer's office, was a bookkeeper for the Las Cruces Sun News, and sold real estate. She was active in the community. Together, they sought business enterprises and received some remuneration for excellent photography work, mostly to do with nature. Velva's slides and pictures were purchased and used in Ideals magazine, the New Mexico magazine, Water Sports in Arizona. She did interest shows and informative bits for garden clubs and the state fair.
